University of Maine Farmington actively supports student involvement in a variety of areas. Students are encouraged to get involved in an organization that matches their interestes or to create such an organization if one doesn't exist.

The information below has been provided by each organization. While these are officially recognized organizations of the University, the content contained within each organization's publications is solely the responsiblity of the respective author.

Alpha Psi Omega
DescriptionThe Phi Chi cast of Alpha Psi Omega seeks to stimulate the interest and love of the theatrical arts at the University of Maine at Farmington; to secure all of the available advantages and support provided by a large national honorary fraternity, and by electing students to membership. Membership in this fraternity is being offered as a reward for the hard work and dediction involved in both the performance and technical aspects of theatrical productions. This cast will in no way seek to replace the other theater groups such as: Theater UMF or the Lawnchair Pirates, but shall instead act as a strong support system for all theatrical functions being held at the University.

Business/Economics Club
DescriptionThe mission of the Business Economics Club is to provide resources, information, activities and opportunities to the Business Economics students and faculty such as holding forums on various business oriented life skills. The club invites business professionals and alumni to speak about different topics of interest. They also organize trips to different businesses, job fairs and seminars. The Business Economics club reaches out to the community and alumni and gives awards to individuals who distinguish themselves in the business world.

Campus Crusade for Christ
DescriptionWe, the students of Campus Crusade for Christ, believe that the student body at the University of Maine Farmington has the right and the provilege to interact in an Christian environment and have a fellowship among other Christians. Therefore, we the students of Campus Crusade for Christ, hereby referred to as Campus Crusade for Christ and /or Oasis, will fulfill the duty to the student body by having weekly Bible Studies and continue with outeach events to engage and fill the campus with the love of Christ.

Campus Residence Council
DescriptionCRC shall be responsible for educational, recreational, social and cultural programming in the residence hall and on campus to include at least one semi-formal event and at least one major community service event. CRC shall also be responsible for the formation and guidance of Residence Hall Cooperatives under CRC leadership, dispersing information to students through Residence Hall Councils, hall meetings and information boards, evaluating the needs of hall residents and Student Life Staffs, giving input and aiding in changes financially and/or administratively with regard to residence halls or campus policies.

Civil War Society NOT ACTIVE
DescriptionThe Civil War Society (CWS) was established for students to explore their interests in the American Civil War. The CWS hopes to promote education and interest of the Civil War at UMF and within the community by means of guest speakers, field trips, movies and re-enacting/living history. With living history, members can actually experience the lives of Civil War combatants and civilians. The club has formed the 2nd Maine Infantry re-enactment group in which we portray Union infantry at re-enacting events. No experience in history is needed, only genuine enthusiasm to learn and to share an interest with other students.

Commuter Council
DescriptionThe purpose of the commuter council shall be to represent the student body on matters that impact commuting students. The commuter council shall take action on or recommend action relative to campus policies affecting the commuting student body. The commuter council will participate in new student orientation programs whenever possible and make every effort to represent commuting students on vaious campus wide activities.

Competitive Ski Club
DescriptionThe purpose of the Competitive Alpine club is to provide opportunities for students to participate in Alpine ski racing, Nordic ski racing, and Snowboard racing in a competitive format. The format will include races governed by USSA and races within USCSA. Competitive Ski Club will also be responsible for training opportunities on a regular basis for participants of the club and will help to financially aid club members with race entry fees, league memberships fees, transportation costs, and training equipment including but not limited to gates, drills, wrenches, and other costly race related items.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
DescriptionThe purpose fo the student CEC, as defined in the national constitution is to promote professional standards of a higher order and improve the preparation of all the professionals dealing with exceptional children and youth. It is the purpose of this organization to promote programs specifically designed to enhance the professional development of its members in serving exceptional children and youth. Also, we shall inform the public of the needs of exceptional children at the local, state and provincial, regional, and international levels.

Film Club NOT ACTIVE
DescriptionThe UMF Independent Filmmakers Club assist students who have an artistic desire to produce independent films. Film Club members provide peer support, adult advising, and production equipment. UMF Independent Filmmakers will help those students with individual subjects including, but not limited to: acting, script writing, technical work, and filming; as well as film production as a whole. They show free independent and mainstream movies every week to the student body. Movie Marathons and Viewing Parties are also done occasionally. They make movies, watch movies and love movies!

Green Campus Coalition
DescriptionIn 2001, Dr. Kalikow encouraged faculty to form this group, which truly is a coalition of faculty, staff, and students. We hold regular meetings to which all are welcome, host events, educate the public on issues of environmental sustainability.

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF)
DescriptionUMF Intervarsity Christian Fellowship's purpose is to establish a chapter for members of the UMF community whose doctrinal basis is expressed in the following statements. The unique divine inspiration, entire trustworthiness and authority of the Bible. The Deity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Justification be God's grace to all who repent and put their faith in Jesus Christ alone for salavation. The indwelling presence and transforming power of the Holy Spirit, who gives to all believers a new life and a new calling to obedient service. The victorious reign and future personal return of Jesus Christ, who will judge all people with justice and mercy, giving over the unrepentant to eternal condemnation, but receiving the redeemed into eternal life.

Lawn Chair Pirates
DescriptionLawn Chair Pirates is the first and only improvisational comedy troupe at UMF. Each year they perform a number of shows on campus in the Latte Landing and Lincoln Auditorium. Their shows can include anything from short films and skits to the more traditional improvised game. Membership in LCP is determined at the start of each semester with auditions. Membership is capped at ten performers and two troupe managers. Mens Rugby Club
DescriptionRugby club allows the student body to play an international sport, compete at the collegiate level, meet diverse people from around New England and be active outside the classroom. The Rugby teams consist of players of all experience levels and athletic abilities. They compete in Division II in NERFU rugby union. You get the chance to travel to many New England schools and meet a lot of new people. The club coordinates all activities, matches, and practices. Anyone is welcome to play!

Phi Alpha Theta NOT ACTIVE
DescriptionPhi Alpha Theta is a National Honor Society devoted to promoting the study of History. Phi Alpha Theta's goal is to recognize students for outstanding academic achievement and to promote the study of history through research, teaching, and publication. Since its inception in 1921, Phi Alpha Theta has since grown to included over 800 chapters nationwide, more than any other accredited four-year college honor society. Alpha Iota Omicron is the University of Maine at Farmington's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. The chapter was formally organized on May 8, 2002.

Political Science Club
DescriptionThe UMF Political Science Club's mission is to promote political discussion and action on the UMF campus. Forums on political issues, discussions with candidates, and trips to places like Washington, D.C. are some of the things that the club has done in the past, and they are always looking for new ideas. In spring 2006 the club teamed up with the College Republicans and brought the Maine gubernatorial candidates to campus to speak. The club is nonpartisan and open to all people, regardless of major, with an interest in government or politics.

SMART NOT ACTIVE
DescriptionSMART attracts students planning to teach math and science in Maine. They also interact with local teachers and learn methods and/or instruments for teaching these subjects that they normally don't have access to. SMART also provides support for disgruntled education majors.

Ski Industries Club
DescriptionThe UMF Ski Industries Club exists to help students defer the costs of educational events, provide opportunities for students to acquire pre-graduate work experience within the ski industry, plan fun events in hope of bringing the club members and the industry closer together, and serve as an outlet throught which students interested in skiing and snowboarding can meet and interact. Educational events include but are not limited to referee clinics, USSCA coach's school, avalanch safety courses, tech certification clinics, PSIA events, and AASI events. Industry events include but are not limited to trade shows, mach buys, and trips to assist company reps. Fun events may include but are not limited to white water rafting, camping, social, trips to local and non-local ski areas, and spring fling. Through its existence as a club some events may qualify to have their respective costs deferred through the club budget, thus making them free of charge or less expensive to students partaking in events. Anyone with an interest in the ski industry, or skiiing and snowboarding in general, will be greeted with open arms.

Student Admissions Club (SAC)
DescriptionAn organization that gives tours and provides information to prospective students, their parents, guidance counselors and other campus visitors and dignitaries. SAC helps various departments with hospitality events that benefit the UMF campus, by providing a students perspective. This includes assisting with various admissions office projects including but not limited to: marketing, panel, presentations, etc.

DescriptionThe Student Senate is an elected governing body for the students at UMF. DescriptionThe Alliance is a group of University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) students, straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and supporting. The Newman Club NOT ACTIVE
DescriptionThis social group is geared towards individuals wanting to integrate their Catholic faith with campus life. This is accomplished through weekly masses and meetings, plus on campus activities. Other activities include retreats and trips around New England.

Theatre UMF
DescriptionThe purpose of TUMF is to promote interest and participation in theater through involvement in production and performance of theatrical pieces for the UMF community and area residents. TUMF also seeks to provide theatrically minded students with resources such as trips to professional productions and other theater related endeavors in and outside of Farmington through trips in and out of state.

DescriptionTri Beta is a biology honor society that provides an opportunity for students interested in the life sciences to get together outside of their courses for fellowship, field trips, slide shows and presentations by guest speakers, as well as fund-raising events.

UMF Cheerleaders
DescriptionThe UMF Cheerleading club is for any student who wants to support the UMF basketball team and promote beaver spirit. The Cheerleaders work as hard as a varsity sport, practicing five days a week for a minimum of two hours. Besides performing at the halftime of games, they will be competing during the 2007-2008 school year. Cheering requires dedication and a love for the sport, and if you are willing to spend the time, they would love to have you on our team.

DescriptionThe UMF Chess Club is dedicated to playing chess and having fun. They meet twice a week to play on campus, but hope to attend and host tournaments next year. UMF Ultimate Disc Club
DescriptionThe UMFUDC will function as a Co-ed Ultimate Team in the Fall and will split into Open (Men's) and Women's teams in the Spring. In both the Spring and the Fall, the UMFUDC will compete against other Ultimate Teams both at the college and club level in both tournaments and single matches. The purpose is to help the spread of the sport of Ultimate Disc, as well as to provide a safe, fun environment in which students can get exercise and compete as a team.

Voices of Women on Campus (VOX)
DescriptionThe purpose of VOX is to give a voice to women of all ages, races, and economic status through socially aware, progressive, cultural, educational and recreational programming pertaining to women, feminism, women's rights, and women's studies, to include discussion groups, speakers, activism, and other events open to the UMF campus and community. To disperse educational information to students and the community at large, in the form of literature, pamphlets, art and spoken word. To aid students in using their political voice, and becoming active on feminist issues. To fund the printing of Ripple, the fiminist publication on campus, and assist with its distribution throughout the UMF campus and community.

WUMF
DescriptionWUMF's purpose is to introduce a variety of music to the listening community which is not currently available through commercial radio sources. To maintain a working relationship with record companies and distributors. This station is obligated to comply with promotional record leasing rules and provides uo-to-date local and national information to UMF students. WUMF will introduce new bands and unique forms of musical expression through broadcasting, concerts, dances and other public displays.

Womens Rugby Football Club
DescriptionThe purpose of this club is to allow the student body to play the international game of rugby. It helps the students become active outside the basic studies of college and is open to any women who has paid the UMF Student Activity Fee.

Writers Guild
DescriptionThe purpose of the Writer's Guild is to provide activities of interest to student writers at UMF. It will speonsor the appearances of visiting writers on campus. The Visiting Writers Series will consist of distinguished, published authors, at least one in each of the three genres (peotry, fiction, non-fiction) per semester. These writers will be paid a stipend from the Student Activity Fee fund as necessary. It will serve as link between vistiting writers and UMF students, particularly Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing majors. It will publish the Sandy River Review twice per year: once in the fall semester, and once in the spring semster, as outlined in Articles IX and X. It will provide a forum for student writers to read their works at meetings and through other methods.
