DescriptionStudent Education Association of Maine (SEAM) is a pre-service, professional development organization sponsored by the Maine Education Association and National Education Association. The organization sponsors speakers throughout the year. Participants in the club may travel to regional or state conferences.

Alpha Phi Omega
DescriptionAlpha Phi Omega is a co-ed community service fraternity. We have fun and gain leadership by doing community service projects and hosting on-campus events. We sponser trick-or-treating for local children through the resident halls, organize blood drives, do campus cleanups, host a father-daughter dance, and help out at the Ronald McDonald House. "Be a leader, be a friend, be of service."

Amnesty International
DescriptionAmnesty International is a worldwide movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized human rights. Amnesty International focuses on preventing and ending human rights abuses committed against people who have exercised their freedom of speech and/or freedom of conscience, as well as abuses committed against people's right to freedom of discrimination. Amnesty International is a nonpolitical group that is not affiliated with any religion.

DescriptionThe purpose of Art Renegades is to support and spread art. We will expose you to new conversations in sight, sound and space, and we will invite you to become a part of the dialogue. Bust-a-Move Beavers
DescriptionThe purpose of Bust-a-Move Beavers is to allow students to express their creative abilities through the art of dancing using different styles and techniques such as contemporary, lyrical, ballet, and whatever other forms of dance are brought in by the members. It will also allow students to develop their choreographic abilities, and would provide an avenue for students to perform for the student body/community.

Campus Residence Council
DescriptionCampus Residence Council serves as a governing body for the on-campus residence halls. Each residence hall elects co-chairs, a treasurer and a secretary. We meet once a week to discuss hall programming and campus-wide events. some of our events include Family and Friends Fall Fest, Faculty Staff Appreciation Banquet, Spring Fling and Maine End Hunger Week.

Clefnotes
DescriptionClenotes is currently the one and only a a capella group at the University of Maine at Farmington. We are a student-run co-ed group of singers/beatboxer(s). We primarily sing contemporary pop songs, however, we also sing a few songs of other genres. Clefnotes is always open to new performance opportunites and has performed in the past at events such as various charity functions, UMF's Symposium Arts Night, UMF convocation, and guest appearanced for other singing groups.

Competitive Ski
DescriptionThe purpose of the Competitive Alpine club is to provide opportunities for students to participate in Alpine ski racing, Nordic ski racing, and Snowboard racing in a competitive format. The format will include races governed by USSA and races within USCSA. Competitive Ski Club will also be responsible for training opportunities on a regular basis for participants of the club and will help to financially aid club members with race entry fees, league memberships fees, transportation costs, and training equipment including but not limited to gates, drills, wrenches, and other costly race related items.

Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
DescriptionThe purpose of the student CEC, as defined in the national constitution is to promote professional standards of a higher order and improve the preparation of all the professionals dealing with exceptional children and youth. It is the purpose of this organization to promote programs specifically designed to enhance the professional development of its members in serving exceptional children and youth. Also, we shall inform the public of the needs of exceptional children at the local, state and provincial, regional, and international levels.

Film Club
DescriptionThe UMF Independent Filmmakers Club assist students who have an artistic desire to produce independent films. Film Club members provide peer support, adult advising, and production equipment. UMF Independent Filmmakers will help those students with individual subjects including, but not limited to: acting, script writing, technical work, and filming; as well as film production as a whole. They show free independent and mainstream movies every week to the student body. Movie Marathons and Viewing Parties are also done occasionally. They make movies, watch movies and love movies!

Girls Talk Teen Voices
DescriptionGirls Talk and Teen Voices are school based mentoring programs. UMF students are selected as mentors for girls in grades 5 through 8 in two local school districts. These programs have a reading /discussion format focus, monthly meetings at various school with dynamic speakers and activities coupled with community service projects and attending cultural events.

DescriptionIVCF is a non-denominational group that believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We have weekly meetings that consist of worship, a bible study and fellowship. There are weekly small group Bible Studies, a retreat each semester and fun monthly events.

Lawn Chair Pirates
DescriptionLawn Chair Pirates is the first and only improvisational comedy troupe at UMF. Each year they perform a number of shows on campus in the Latte Landing and Lincoln Auditorium. Their shows can include anything from short films and skits to the more traditional improvised game. Membership in LCP is determined at the start of each semester with auditions. Membership is capped at ten performers and two troupe managers. Live Action Combat
DescriptionLive Action Combat is inactive for Spring 2012. L.A.C's purpose is to foster a safe and enjoyable enviorment, and to promote teamwork, critical thinking, and good physical and mental health by offering and outlet for the student body. We provide a framework that regulates all aspects of Live Action Combat, including equipment creation, distribution, maintence, and appropriate usage, as well as training, group assemblies, transportaion, and communication. L.A.C also intends to promote interclub and intramural competition while maintaining the spirit of positive sportsmanship.

Mens Rugby Club
DescriptionThe Men's Rugby club consists of players of all experience levels and athletic abilities. They compete in Division III in NERFU rugby union and travel to many New England schools throughout the season. We coordinate all our own practices, matches and activities. It's a great way to meet new people, play a competitive sport, and in in shape during college.

DescriptionKonichiwa! The Otaku Club is here to celebrate various forms of Japanese media. We have a vast collection of anime, music and manga that students may borrow. We have a convention every year for the exploration and enjoyment of Japanese culture, game nights at least once a month where we can unwind and have a good time, and dance nights where we play Japanese Pop and have fun!

DescriptionThe Outing Clubs purpose is to involve students in outdoor activities which include, but are not limited to, hiking, canoeing, skiing, white water rafting, camping, rock climbing, mountaineering, and service/trail work. Phi Alpha Theta
DescriptionPhi Alpha Theta is a National Honor Society devoted to promoting the study of History. Phi Alpha Theta's goal is to recognize students for outstanding academic achievement and to promote the study of history through research, teaching, and publication. Since its inception in 1921, Phi Alpha Theta has since grown to included over 800 chapters nationwide, more than any other accredited four-year college honor society. Alpha Iota Omicron is the University of Maine at Farmington's chapter of Phi Alpha Theta. The chapter was formally organized on May 8, 2002.

Poetry Slam Team
DescriptionThe purpose of this is to write, edit, perform and critique poetry performances and to practice skills needed to perform and compete against other teams in groups or individually. While everyone is welcome to attend the meetings, if the team goes to competition, depending on the contest requirements, only a specified number of performers may be allowed to attend.

Political Science Club
DescriptionThe UMF Political Science Club's mission is to promote political discussion and action on the UMF campus. Forums on political issues, discussions with candidates, and trips to places like Washington, D.C. are some of the things that the club has done in the past, and they are always looking for new ideas. In spring 2006 the club teamed up with the College Republicans and brought the Maine gubernatorial candidates to campus to speak. The club is nonpartisan and open to all people, regardless of major, with an interest in government or politics.

DescriptionThe primary function of the Religion and Philosophy Club is to provide a forum for all UMF students and community members to explore, both critically and open-mindedly, issues of religious and philosophical interest. The club is responsible for fostering intellectual discussion through hosting of consultations and speakers. DescriptionThe Senior Class helps foster unity among the members of the senior class by hosting socials throughout the year for members to get to know each other. Student Senate
DescriptionThe Student Senate is an elected governing body for the students at UMF. The purpose of the Student Senate is to provide the most effective use of student money and effort by informing students on issues of their concern and eliminating confusion about those issues. Student Senate represents the student body to the University of Maine System and brings their concerns, input and opinions to President Theo Kalikow, the administration at UMF, and any other appropriate body or organization. DescriptionThe Table Gaming Club is a proud group of students and community members who have came together for the common cause of FUN and to provide an alternative to drugs, alcohol and soap operas in creating a diversion from academic stress. Down in the basement of Franklin Hall they crack up all kinds of fun every day of the week with our RPG's, board games, card games and even some new gaming consoles (yes, they do have a Nintendo!)

UMF Cheerleaders
DescriptionThe Umf Cheerleading club is for any student who wants to support our basketball team and promot Beaver Spirit. We work as hard as any other varsity sport, practicing five days a well for a minimum of two hours. Besides preforming at halftime of games, we will be competing during the school year. It requires dedication and a love for the sport, and if you are willing to spend the time we would love to have you on our team.

DescriptionThe UMF Chess Club is dedicated to playing chess and having fun. They meet twice a week to play on campus, but hope to attend and host tournaments next year. The Chess Club is a new club as of Spring '05 and plan on also participating in USCF sanctioned events. There are no requirements to join, nor expectations in terms of ability or attendance. DescriptionThe purpose of the Fooding Club is to promote the education and enjoyment of the culinart arts at UMF. UMF Hockey Club
DescriptionThis club offers a chance for hockey enthusiasts to play competitvely in two organized leagues: the Central Maine Collegiate Conference, which welcomes both male and female players, and the Sukee Arena Men's League, which provides an opportunity for athletes to play at a lower level of competition while preparing for the rigor of the collegiate league.

Additionally, the club aims to engage in community outreach that draws on the members' scientific knowledge. The club also sponsors social events which bring together UMF students and faculty interested in the sciences. The new science club offers excellent opportunities for first year students to become genuine contributors.

UMF Ultimate Disc Club
DescriptionUltimate Disc is one of the world's fastest growing sports. It plays a bit like soccer and lacrosse. It has the action of football, but everyone is a quarterback and a receiver. The current installment of UMF Ultimate began in the fall of 1997 when the club was first recognized by the Student Senate. Since that time, the club has grown in numbers and had many successes. The club is looking for highly motivated players who are willing to travel, practice and have fun doing both. If you are looking for something active, and just a little different, this just might be your spot.

Voices of Women on Campus (VOX)
DescriptionThe purpose of VOX is to give a voice to women of all ages, races, and economic status through socially aware, progressive, cultural, educational and recreational programming pertaining to women, feminism, women's rights, and women's studies, to include discussion groups, speakers, activism, and other events open to the UMF campus and community. To disperse educational information to students and the community at large, in the form of literature, pamphlets, art and spoken word. To aid students in using their political voice, and becoming active on feminist issues. To fund the printing of Ripple, the fiminist publication on campus, and assist with its distribution throughout the UMF campus and community.

WUMF
DescriptionWUMF's purpose is to introduce a variety of music to the listening community which is not currently available through commercial radio sources. To maintain a working relationship with record companies and distributors. This station is obligated to comply with promotional record leasing rules and provides uo-to-date local and national information to UMF students. WUMF will introduce new bands and unique forms of musical expression through broadcasting, concerts, dances and other public displays.

Womens Rugby Football Club
DescriptionThe Women's Rugby club consists of players of all experience levels and athletic abilities. They compete in Division III in NERFU rugby union and travel to many New England schools throughout the season. We coordinate all our own practices, matches and activities. It's a great way to meet new people, play a competitive sport, and in in shape during college.

Writers Guild
DescriptionThe purpose of the Writer's Guild is to provide activities of interest to student writers at UMF. It will sponsor the appearances of visiting writers on campus. The Visiting Writers Series will consist of distinguished, published authors, at least one in each of the three genres (poetry, fiction, non-fiction) per semester. These writers will be paid a stipend from the Student Activity Fee fund as necessary. It will serve as link between visiting writers and UMF students, particularly Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing majors. It will publish the Sandy River Review twice per year: once in the fall semester, and once in the spring semester, as outlined in Articles IX and X. It will provide a forum for student writers to read their works at meetings and through other methods.
